Greetings from Barcelona!
I'll be taking photos today, and Derek Kessler will be on words describing everything happening.
The event's scheduled to get started in about 12 minutes. Expect extra tall screens. So tall.
They're really going hard core on the red lights here.
Based on the line art screensaver graphics running right now, there'll be straight lines, rounded corners, AND circles.
The announcer telling everyone to sit down is having trouble with "LG G6", though. Apparently there's also the L6 G6 and LG 6 coming today. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Announcer got it right! LG G6!
And we're getting started!
Transformers-style countdown and flashy lights
Going over wish lists with people on the streets of New York City and Seoul.
They want a big screen they can fit in their pocket. A phone that's waterproof. A wide camera.
A tough and reliable phone.
Apparently what they want is an LG G6. Surprise!
Georgie Barrat, tech journalist and broadcaster from London, is the emcee
And now, Seong-jin Jo, Vice Chairman & CEO of LG Electronics is up
Giving background on his history with LG — started as a washing machine engineer decades ago with LG. He's been at this for a while.
Normally it's an LG Mobile exec on stage doing this, so having the CEO of the broader LG up here is a big deal.
And now on to the LG Mobile exec, who is going to have a scripted conversation with Barrat. Yay.
"Learning from you" is the theme here.
"Proud to have made that effort" about the LG G5. All but admitting that it was an epic modular failure.
The real battlefield is usability and reliability.
People don't just want the fastest chips or most megapixels.
They want the essential fundamentals to be done right.
They want a bigger display, but not a bigger phone.
Boy, I wonder what the LG G6 will be like.
